The Summer Learning Journey

Today a lady called Rachel came to talk to us about the Summer Learning Journey.

Want to find out more about the Summer Learning Journey?

Have a look through these...

Being a part of the Summer Learning Journey will help you not to forget all the things you have learnt this year (especially in writing!), but it will also give you the chance to learn about new countries and meet new people.

(And you might even win a goodie bag and smartphone...!!)

Check out the Summer Learning Journey website here.

Note - students please talk to your parents before you sign up, as you need to discuss how they can support you in this decision. Do you have a laptop or computer at home to use? Do you have internet at home? If not, do you have your TLN password to use? Where is the closest library you could visit?

Celebrating 100 posts!

(Written by Miss Ashley)

Today in assembly I really wanted to celebrate some of our students who have reached 100 posts on their learning blogs. These students were Dziah, Hiria, Alyssa, Mojtaba, Timote and Auckland.

These students got a certificate each but also got to choose a new background for their blog (instead of a boring orange background). They have worked very hard to keep on top of their work throughout the year and remember to post it on their blog. These students are also very diligent at using the correct labels on every blog post.

Well done you guys, I am very proud of you!

Check out their blogs by clicking their names above and leave them a congratulations comment!

Learning how to code!

Today we started learning how to code!

We did it on a website called www.code.org.

You have to work your way through different courses, that teach you different stuff. The course 1 is really basic stuff like how to move your character to the left or to the right, or up and down.

It gets harder when you move into course 2 and keep going.

Here are some pictures of us working on our coding.

One student even finished Course 1 within one hour and posted on her blog about it..

Alyssa @ Tamaki Primary School: Learning how to code!: Today we went on www.code.org which is a website that teaches kids how to code. Coding is like the background of how games work. I complet...

If you are not sure how coding works, check out this quick movie. Coding is when you control how a game works by moving blocks (the coloured brick looking things on the right hand side).

Making up one whole.

Today we made fraction flippers so we could see different combinations of how to make up one whole.
We learnt that 2/8 is the same as 1/4, and 3/13 is the same as 1/4 as well. Because of this, there are lots of different ways that you can make up one whole.

Here are some students blog posts.

Hiria @ Tamaki Primary School: Equivalent fraction of one whole

Auckland @ Tamaki Primary School: equivalent fractions of one whole: 1/4 + 1/4 + 3/12 + 3/12 =1 whole 2/8 + 2/8 + 1/4 + 2/8=1 whole 3/12 + 3/12 + 3/12 + 2/8=1 whole 1/4 + 1/4 + 2/8 + 3/12= 1 whole 1/4...

Eve @ Tamaki Primary School: equivalent fractions of one whole:  1/12  1/4   1/8  1/12 1/4 1/8

Celebrating our own learning achievement!

As part of our inquiry, we have been celebrating different parts of ourselves and our lives.
Today we had a look at our learning achievements.
Miss Ashley gave us our assessment data from term 1 and term 4, so we could compare it and see how much we have moved up in our levels.

Here is how the levels work...

Celebrating our Families

Today we used google drawing to show why families are important to us and why it is worth celebrating what our family members do for us!

Saia @ Tamaki Primary School: Celebrating my family

A great reflection by Sossaia - as part of our inquiry unit "Celebrating Me", we are thinking about all the other things about us that are worth celebrating. Today we are writing about our families!

Sosaia's Reflection on today's fun activity

Today, students from TPS had an education day called EOTC. In Tamaki Primaryś name, EOTC stands for Education outside the classroom.  Today the activities that we all participated in was Bowling and Lazer strike. It was fun because I was playing with my friends and we were shooting each other on the Laser Strike. What I liked about our trip we made is that I was trying to be respectful and helpful for my teacher Mrs. Sharma because it is her birthday today. Here are some photos above from where we were.

Mojtaba @ Tamaki Primary School: nets shapes

A great explanation of what we did in maths today by Mojtaba!

Mojtaba @ Tamaki Primary School: nets shapes: Today we made a cuboid  out of a net it was fun I made a sponge bob  one it looked cool . And if you look down you will see my sponge bob...

Nets of shapes

Today we were learning about nets of shapes. A net of a shape is what the shape looks like when you open the shape up.

We used nets of shapes to make 3D shapes like cubes, cuboids and pyramids.

Here are some of the shapes we made.

#MannequinChallenge

This morning we did the #mannequinchallenge.

Most of us have NEVER done this before so it was a bit confusing and a weird experience.

Check us out!

We challenge you!

Symmetry

Today we learnt about symmetry.

Symmetry is where a shape or object is mirrored or the two parts are the same.

We used lots of different shapes and we cut the out and folded them in half (vertically and horizontally) to see if the two sides were the same.

Then we sorted the shapes into categories - vertically symmetrical, horizontally symmetrical, and asymmetrical. We had to agree or disagree with the other groups if we thought that shape was vertically symmetrical, horizontally symmetrical or it wasn't symmetrical at all.

Asymmetrical means when it isn't symmetrical, the two parts are not the same.

President Trump

Today we talked about President Trump and the elections that happened this week.

We used this DLO to research Clinton, Trump and the election.

Then we talked about everything we learnt about the two people - Clinton and Trump.

Then, we went away and wrote about our opinion. Some people thought they would vote for Trump, and some people thought they would vote for Clinton.

Check out some of our work by clicking our name.
