Water Campaign!

Throughout Term 1, Room 6 has done lots of learning around water. 

We learnt why it is important to drink water everyday, how it helps you learn, how we use water in our everyday lives, what other people use water for etc.

Water Campaign #2

This week, some of room 6 students went with Mrs Sharma to all the classes in the school and taught them the signs we made for harmony and peace.

Then we made posters to encourage people in our class, school and community to drink water.

Here are some photos of us drafting our posters and then making them!

On Thursday, Miss Ashley is going to take us to put some of our posters up around the school so we can teach others about how drinking water is good for us and how we should all drink water. 

And Mrs Sharma will take us around again to remind the students of TPS about peace and harmony, and we can put this into our movie about our school values!

Water campaign!

Throughout Term 1, Room 6 has talked a lot about how important it is to drink water.

We started by investigating the uses of water,
then we looked at why water is important for your body.

We are going to do two things to finish off our water campaign, which is 1) to make posters and put them around the school to teach others about the importance of drinking water, and 2) we are going to try and make a movie about drinking water! Here are some photos that we have taken which will be in our movie- 

This is so we can share our knowledge and passion with our school and community! 

My culture!

 Following on from last week, today we wrote about our cultures and made a poster to show important things of our culture and our country.

We then presented them and hung them in our classroom for everybody to see!

It is important that we know about our culture as it influences so much of our lives. We are learning about our school values, Manakitanga, Whanaunatanga, Ako, Rangimarie and Tukumarie. By doing this activity, we learnt about each others cultures and so we learnt to show respect to each other, and be tolerant of each others differences. 

Cultural Week! (Tuesday)

This week we are having an inquiry into our cultures.

Today we talked about what a culture is, different examples of cultures and what makes up a culture. We then split up into our cultural groups - we have a Tongan group, Samoan group and a Maori group. Our teachers, Mrs Sharma and Miss Ashley, brainstormed their own cultures which are Indian and Kiwi.

Then we presented the important things about our culture to the rest of our class. We did this so we can learn about each others cultures and learn from each other. This is our school value called Ako. 

Tomorrow we are going to use our brainstorms, and all the things we learnt about our own, and others cultures to learn more about ourselves!

As part of our Tagata o le Moana (People of the Sea) Inquiry. Scott and Curtys used the inquiry model to research and present information about a sea creature of their choice.

GARDEN DAY ACTIVITY REFLECTION SHEET

This document is a reflection on the purpose , process and outcomes of our Garden Day Activities.

NAME: Petra

ACTIVITY: Ko

MATERIALS:

• branches, mussel shells

PURPOSE:

• because it was garden day and we needed a Ko for the garden. We will use it to dig in the garden.

PROCESS:

• we took the skin off with the mussel shell
• softened the wood
• sharpened the wood with a knife to make a point at the end

WHAT WORKED WELL:

• concentrating on what we had to do, fininshing the job

WHAT DIDN’T WORK WELL:

• the shells were breaking and the shells were cutting us sometimes

What did you learn?

• I learnt you can take skin off branches.
• you can scrape skin off with a mussel shell.
